Course: Bovine Colostrum Management

Bovine Colostrum Management

Course outline

Effective colostrum management and successful transfer of passive immunity are foundational to lifetime productivity, as calves that achieve adequate early immune protection show improved health, growth, and resilience, reducing reliance on antimicrobial interventions later in life. From a One Health perspective, optimising colostrum practices supports animal welfare, farm profitability, and environmental sustainability by lowering disease burden, antimicrobial use, and associated public‑health risks. This session provides an overview of the latest research and practical implementation strategies for colostrum management and passive immunity in calves.

The course was written and will be delivered by Dr Ryan Davies BVM&S MRCVS. A Veterinary Surgeon with over 20 years experience in farm animal clinical practice, he has a special interest in preventative health medicine and the reduction in the use of antibiotics in food producing animals.
