World Buiatrics Congress Cancun, Mexico – May 2024
On May 20th – 24th 2024 leading experts from the veterinary profession gathered in Cancun, Mexico for the 2024 World Buiatrics Congress. The Congress takes place biannually to bring the latest research and developments in bovine and small ruminant medicine and surgery to veterinary professionals worldwide.
Dr Ryan Davies was selected as a keynote speaker for the event giving a presentation entitled ‘Whole colostrum for calf welfare and long term productivity’ to delegates from across the world. The presentation was well received and detailed the latest developments in standards for the TPI (Transfer of Passive Immunity), colostral fat as an immediate source of energy for the newborn calf and colostrum as a mediator of lactocrine signalling mechanisms to enhance growth and development.
During an afternoon workshop session, Dr Davies participated in an SCCL workshop presenting on the use of pooled, pasteurised transition milk to reduce the incidence of disease and maximise productivity in batch calving herds.
